UNACC Opening Times
UNACC is open every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday between 9.30am – 2.30pm.

Happy New Year
We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. W e’re looking forward to seeing you back at the centre with our full range of activities from on Tuesday 3^rd January. 

Valentine’s Day Special
Come and join us on Tuesday 14^th February 2023 to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We will be celebrating in style with canapes, a lovely roast, fabulous dessert all served with wine and a romantic film, only £14. Classes are as normal.

Funding
Unfortunately due to the bad news regarding our funding and the loss of £40,000 per year we will have to raise our daily rates.

From Tuesday 3rd January, daily rates will be as follows: 

£12 Day Rate 1: includes two course lunch, activity, unlimited tea, coffee and a slice or cake or piece of fruit.
£6 Day Rate 2: includes activity, unlimited tea, coffee and a slice of cake or piece of fruit.
£4 Day Rate 3: includes unlimited tea, coffee and a slice of cake or piece of fruit or just the activity.

This will be reviewed again at the start of the next financial year, and we believe it still represents excellent value when compared with similar organisations. It will help us if everybody comes more regularly as well, the busier the days are, the more our costs are covered so please consider coming on an additional day or two to your normal day/s. If we all pull together we can get through this and UNACC can still be here for years to come. Thank you

Christmas Parties

We are very excited to announce our Christmas parties for 2022. Held over two days in the main room on Wednesday 14^th & Friday 16^th December 2022, we have a fantastic treat for you.

Wednesday 14^th December 2022: Bucks fizz reception, canapes, quiz, raffle, 3 course lunch served with wine or fruit juice, followed by mince pie swirls & music. Only £17

Friday 16^th December 2022 Bucks fizz reception, canapes, choir singing Christmas Carols, 3 course lunch served with wine or fruit juice, followed by mince pie swirls & music. Only £17.

In order to avoid disappointment we are leaving the seating plan up to members, this is not an easy task as food requirements must be assigned to the correct person on each table. We ask one member to volunteer to take charge of this, we will of course help where necessary.

The AGM is open to all and will be held on Friday 4 November at 10am. We desperately need committee members, if you’re interested in being on the committee please nominate yourself at the AGM.

UNACC 50 Year Anniversary 23^rd September 2022
This month UNACC will be celebrating 50 years of serving the over 50s in our local community and surrounding areas. We have a fantastic anniversary celebration planned for Friday 23^rd September 2022. As part of the celebration, members can enjoy a delicious free lunch cooked by our lovely chef Paige. We will offer a number of places to non-members allowing them to experience all we have to offer, including free exercise taster sessions, in the hope they will join as members. If you have friends or neighbours over the age of 50 please invite them along, in order to secure their place they must email info@unacc.org.uk to tell us they would like to attend, they will receive a confirmation email. Please make sure they do not come unless they have received the

email confirming their spot as we have to cater for exact numbers.

There will be a small photographic exhibition called ‘Fun and memories at UNACC’ please bring any photos you may have at home. Times 10.15am – 2.30pm.

Weekly Menu
In order to avoid increasing prices at UNACC despite the immense pressures of the cost of living crisis, staff are visiting supermarkets five times a week. Although this is very time consuming and out of working hours we are committed to continue so that you, our members pay prices at current levels. Due to this however menus may not be available in advance and meals will be subject to seasonal produce. Thank you for understanding.

We will be running weekly drop in sessions on a Monday 11am-12pm to provide information around the covid vaccine. These sessions will be about raising awareness, myth busting and reducing vaccine hesitancy where uptake is low. We will also be hosting the vaccine bus at one or more sessions where you can receive your 1st, 2nd or booster doses. Please ask for more information.

As of Wednesday 31^st August, we will no longer accept old £20 notes.

Kitchen

Due to a health & safety review and our current insurance we cannot permit members to go down the stairs to the kitchen. If you would like to discuss anything with Paige, please wait until she comes upstairs or speak to us in the office.

Day Trip
We had a lovely day at Brighton on Monday 4^th July, the sun shone, it was a great day.  As another day out, we’re considering visiting a stately home, like Anne Boleyn’s Hever Castle or Winston Churchill’s home, Chartwell. We do ask, that if you are interested and sign up to come, that you commit fully, and do not pull out.  We do not make money from coach trips, we simply divide the cost of the trip by the number of passengers, pulling out leaves UNACC paying the shortfall. Please let us know if this is of interest.

New Keep Fit Class Monday

We’re very pleased to announce Triniti will be running a new keep fit class starting on Monday 27^th June at 10.30am. The class will run for a trial period of one month, in order for it to continue we must have sufficient numbers attending. Please support the class by coming along and bringing friends.

Working Hard to Keep Prices Down
Here at UNACC we have been working very hard to keep prices as they are, despite ever increasing costs. For the last couple of months, UNACC staff have been visiting supermarkets throughout the week, including outside of work time, very early mornings, and evenings to pick up the very best deals available. Furthermore we have been offering free food such as bread, fruit, etc to you, our members.  We are committed to continuing this additional work in order to keep the very competitive rates we have now.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Film
Our UNACC film in collaboration with the Crystal Palace International Film Festival is ready for screening. Memories of the Queen, her coronation, subsequent Jubilee celebrations and how the world has changed in that time will be shown on Tuesday 28^th June 2022 in the green room. Please come along to see it.

Brighton Trip
Most of you have already paid for the Brighton Trip on Monday 4^th July, we’re just waiting on the last few. We may have a couple of spare places available so do let us know if you’re interested in coming.

Membership
Please make sure you pay your membership for this year, there are concessions for those that come for one or two classes only a week, please come to the office to ask.  You will always get a receipt.

Bus Strike

Due to the planned bus strike on Monday 16^th May, UNACC will be closed, open again on Tuesday 17^th May.

Queens Jubilee Bank Holiday UNACC Closure

We will be closed for the Jubilee Bank holidays on Monday 30^th May, open again Tuesday 31^st May and Wednesday 1^st June, closed again on Friday 3^rd June.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration
Tuesday 31 May 10am – 2pm

We will be celebrating the Queen’s platinum jubilee in style! In order to make it the best celebration possible we have commissioned two projects, an art exhibition from our resident art group and a local primary school where 200 children will take part, and we have partnered with the Crystal Palace International Film Festival to create a film. The film is based on local people’s memories of the Queen’s coronation, subsequent jubilee celebrations and how the world has changed in that time. Filming will take place on Friday 13^th May & Wednesday 18^th May 2022. Platinum Jubilee celebrations will include afternoon tea, soft drinks tea, coffee and sandwiches, Member’s art exhibition, music and so much more. Sandwiches: egg & cress, cheese & cucumber, ham & cheese, coronation chicken, smoked salmon & cream cheese, tuna mayo sweetcorn. Savouries: pork & apple sausage roll, quiche, chips. Sweet: homemade scones with jam & cream, lemon drizzle sponge, chocolate cake all for just £10. As a thank you, those that have contributed to the event by submitting artwork or being on film will get their lunches free.

Brighton

We are now collecting money for our Brighton trip on Monday 4^th July 2022, please make sure to sign the sheet when you pay.

Membership

There will be a little photography exhibition with memories of being at UNACC, if you have any pictures please can you bring them in, we will take a copy and return.

Easter closing times

UNACC will be closed on Good Friday 15^th April and Easter Monday 18^th April, open again on Tuesday 19^th April.

Charles Penn

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Charles Penn died on Sunday 13^th March 2022. Some of you will remember Charlie attending UNACC on a Tuesday & Friday, he would sit with Glynis, Juliet and Bolene who is also sadly deceased.  May they both rest in peace.

Easter Event

We are hosting a fantastic Easter Event on Tuesday 12th April, you will be welcomed with a pink lemonade and prosecco Spritz cocktail (alcohol free version) reception 3 course lunch with Roast lamb and all the trimmings (veggie: butternut nut squash wellington), wine, soft drinks, gin & tonic or tea and coffee to finish.  Easter egg raffle, quiz and music. There will be no classes that day. £16

We are partnering with the Crystal Palace International Film Festival to create a film based on local people’s memories of the Queen’s coronation, subsequent jubilee celebrations and how the world has changed in that time. We are looking for people to present their memories on camera, we will give you guidance and tips on how to present yourself, please sign up in the office.

Triniti Returns

We are very pleased to announce the return of Triniti and her very popular class on Friday 1^st April 2022. 

Membership

It’s that time of year again, yearly subscriptions are due. We have looked at all the figures and our current running costs which include a 20% hike in rent, we have no choice but to increase the yearly subscriptions to £40. We will be keeping the daily rates the same but may review charges for other services. Jean will start collecting in April, you will receive a receipt.

End to restrictions, move to ‘Living with Covid’

Boris Johnson has announced the end of all domestic Covid restrictions in England in a process starting Thursday 24 February. From this date there is no longer a legal requirement to self-isolate, instead people are advised to stay at home if they have Covid, or believe they do. Although it is no longer a requirement, we ask that you continue to take regular lateral flow tests especially if you feel unwell, and that you do not come to the centre if you feel unwell or test positive.
