Happy New Year
Welcome back everyone! UNACC activities resume this week on 3^rd January, apart from Judy’s classes which start again on the 11^th. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, all of us at UNACC wish you a Happy New year and a 2017 full of health, wealth and happiness.
As ever there are lots of thank you’s to be said, as we couldn’t continue to run without the hard work of all the volunteers, and the support of all of you members. Firstly, thank you to everyone who made the Christmas party on 9^th December such a success. I’m sure you’ll all agree that the meal was fantastic, so thank you to Mark, and his helpers Lynda, Montell, Eve, Sandra, Sheila, Yvonne and Chris Wright for all their hard work in the kitchen, and to Natalie and Roberta for peeling all the veg the day before! Thanks also to Sophia and her daughters, and to Gerald and Alan for helping to serve and clear, to Peter Kneebone for the wonderful entertainment, and to Barry and Mike for donating all the wine.
Thanks also to all the volunteers who give their time throughout the year, especially to Eve who has raised over £200 for UNACC this year through the sale of her handmade cards. Remember that everything we raise goes straight back into the running of UNACC!

UNACC Film Club
Film club will return on Wednesday January 25^th showing the fantastic Gigi, as always a delicious meal will be served at 12pm followed by the screening at 12.30pm.

New Kitchen Rules
Please congratulate Montell Williams who will be starting his apprenticeship with UNACC! This does mean we will having regular inspections in the kitchen, so MUST comply with health & hygiene standards. Those permitted to enter the kitchen are required to have a valid certificate, and a list of those permitted to enter is on the kitchen door.

A beautiful 3 course meal with wine will be served in the Pavilion Hall at 12.30 (menu below) followed by the raffle and entertainment by the fabulous Peter Kneebone, dancing and singing along is encouraged. Last few tickets available now from Jean & the office, cost £20.

Film club will return on Wednesday December 14^th, a delicious meal with a glass of mulled wine will served slightly earlier. Film will be ‘Holiday Inn’ to get you in the Christmas mood!

Additional Food
Please do not ask for food that is not on the menu, as Mark is busy and has not got the time to make anything additional. Please note this also unfortunately applies to birthday cakes for the time being.

Christmas Hamper Donations PLEASE
Please donate good quality hamper items such as tins of red salmon, tinned ham/corned beef, soup, small bottles of wine, miniature spirits, tea, coffee, sugar chocolates, Christmas cake, mince pies. Thanks you for your support.

Christmas Party Volunteers
Thanks to those who have volunteered so far, we have all we need for service and preparation but we still require volunteers to help wash dishes from 12.30-4pm, please let the office know if you can help.

An afternoon tea with entertainment – A huge success
We had a fabulous time at our afternoon tea with entertainment on Friday 16 September, Peter the singer went down a storm getting the whole room rocking, we’re very happy to announce he will return for the UNACC Christmas party on Friday 9^th December 2016, get it in your diary!.   We would like to say a special thank you to Eve, Lynda, Jean, Francis & Montel who rallied together to make it such a success. 

Money at the Centre

Get the grey matter working with our quiz to start the event, relax with sandwiches, cakes and unlimited tea and coffee, finish up with a sing-a-long or dance to our entertainer Peter, with 30 years+ experience Peter will offer you an afternoon to remember! £10 only. From 11.30 to 2pm please arrive by 11am.

Brighton Trip
A fantastic day was had by all on our trip to Brighton, the sun shone, the coach was fantastic and Mark made Mildred walk so much and fast she’s considering entering the 100 metres race in Rio.

South Norwood Community Festival UNACC Stand
Thanks so much to those of you that volunteered at the South Norwood Festival stand, it’s helped raise the profile of the charity and we have since received our cut of all the raffle ticket sales and donations of £403.81. Further success from the event, Terry Brennan won 1^st prize at the raffle winning an iPod mini and Alan Milton won 2^nd prize, a digital camera.

UNACC Film Club
We will be showing Meet me in St Louis on Wednesday 3^1st August. Tickets will be on sale shortly from Jean and the office. Screening will be at 12.30pm following a roast dinner, tickets are £7 including lunch, £2 without lunch.

Queen’s Birthday Celebration
We had a fantastic time celebrating the Queen’s birthday on Tuesday 14^th June. A lovely buffet prepared by our fantastic kitchen team and some very tasty cakes made by a number of our members, thanks to all that took part, the winners were 1^st Eve, 2^nd Anthea 3^rd Natalie. 

Brighton Trip
We will be going by coach to Brighton on Monday 25^th July, tickets are £20 each (coach only) please pay Jean Tennant or the office, we still have a few spaces available.

South Norwood Community Festival UNACC Stand
We have been given a free stand at the South Norwood Festival on Sunday 10^th July 2016, in addition we have been selected as one of two charities to receive all donations and proceeds from raffle sales on the day which is great news. We’re asking for volunteers to help man our stand in one hour slots. If you can help please let the office know, many thanks.

Queen’s Birthday Celebration
We will be celebrating the Queen’s birthday in style on Tuesday 14^th June 2016 here at UNACC. Celebrations cost just £6 and include a buffet, entertainment, cake and jam & chutney making competitions. Judging takes place in the main room at 11.30am so please arrive by 11am to have your entries in on time. We need an idea of numbers so please let the office know if you’re attending.

Art Exhibition
We had fabulous examples of our talented art class displayed at the UNACC Art exhibition held on Friday 27^th May. Thanks to you all for getting involved and to Mark for making some lovely cakes which were sold on the day.

UNACC Family Fun Day
We are very pleased with how the UNACC Family Fun day went on Friday April 8^th. The sun shone, the BBQ sizzled and everyone enjoyed themselves, most importantly we raised just under £800, which goes straight back into running UNACC for your benefit. We would like to thank all of you who volunteered on the day, working on stalls and in the kitchen – we simply couldn’t do it without you and of course a big thank you to all who donated gifts for our tombola. A special thank you to Jean Tennant who worked tirelessly for weeks driving around gathering bric-a-brac to sell on the day and Sophia Yearwood who secured games from the scouts and the bouncy castle from a family friend. We must also thank the lovely James & Lucy from Martin & Co Estate agents for sponsoring the event.

Gwen Fowler
We held a memorial lunch on Tuesday 26^th April in honour of Gwen, who was an important part of UNACC’s history and a valued member. It was great to see so many UNACC members there to celebrate this wonderful lady’s life and raise a glass to her – thanks very much to David Cheetham from Catalina court for the bubbly and donation. Gwen was a supportive member of UNACC’s Trustee board, and active in many other committees including the 60+ club – we are sorry that nobody from the 60+ club was able to come to the memorial. Gwen was much loved will be dearly missed.

Art Exhibition
We will be holding an exhibition of artwork by our members on Friday 27^th May in the pavilion hall.  There will be tea, coffee & cakes served, and entry is free.

UNACC Film Club, Grease is the Word!
We will be showing the classic film Grease on Wednesday 25^th of May 2016. Please could you come in fancy dress as characters from the movie, and you can be a Pink lady, a T-bird or any other character you like! We will be serving milk shakes & burgers just like the Frosty Palace! We need to apply for funding to ensure the film club continues next year so we want to take lots of pictures with the place looking nice and full, please put this date in your diary.

UNACC Poetry Competition
We had some fabulous entries and didn’t realise we had such a talented bunch at UNACC! Well done to Avril Fransella, who won 1^st prize, and the two runners up Shirley Kendry and Juliet Burgis!

UNACC Easter Banquet & Sing-a-long
We held our Easter Banquet on Friday 18^th March, and not everything went to plan! The loss of our phone lines and internet in the morning put a lot of extra pressure on office staff, and the loss of some of our usual kitchen volunteers plus blocked drains meant Mark had to work doubly hard to make sure you all got a delicious meal. The last straw was when the pianist didn’t turn up! Huge thanks go to Neill, Roberta’s partner, who stepped in at the last minute, with rousing renditions of the Beatles and other songs to make sure you all got a sing-a-long and some music on the piano. Special thanks also go to Mark and his volunteers for the fabulous meal and dealing with the mountains of washing up! Much gratitude also goes to Barry and Mike who very kindly donated the wine for the meal and who always support our events. Any event has the potential to go wrong, and unfortunately lots of things beyond our control went very wrong on the day! We would like to thank you all so much for sticking with us and making the best of an event that we have had very good feedback from, and everyone certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves on the day. Without great members and volunteers to support these events, they could not go ahead so thanks again for being so understanding, and remember that we raised over £700 which goes straight back into running UNACC for your benefit.

UNACC Family Fun Day
We will be holding a UNACC Family fun day on Friday 8^th April, there will be stalls, entertainment for children including, bouncy castle, face painting and craft and for adults. We ask if you could please donate a bottle, chocolates, Easter eggs or new cuddly toys for our tombola. All money raised will go back into the running of the club so please support our event as much as you can by asking friends and family to come along.
