Money raised for the Smile Train

smiletrain

The Smile Train is a charity that organizes volunteer surgeons from the UK to travel to developing countries to help children with cleft lips and palates. Without their help millions of children would be condemned to a lifetime or malnutrition, shame and isolation. The Smile Train empowers local surgeons to provide life-change free surgery which costs as little at £150. With the support of the Waterside selling knitting and other fundraising activities throughout the year Anne Armstrong has been able to send a cheque for £250 to support the Smile Train so thanks for your support.

January 2015

Thank you to you all!
I would like to start the year by saying an enormous thank you to everyone who supported us throughout 2014 – Staff, Volunteers, Trustees, Fundraising Committee and Members. Thank you to all those who have given their time to help raise money – extra special thanks to Jean, Eve, Juliet and Sandra, and also all those who have kindly donated money to UNACC – extra special thanks to Gwen, Enid, Gerald, Barry and Mike. Thanks also go to Leigh, who on behalf of CVA waives hire fees for fundraising events and always supports us to make sure the money we raise can go straight back into the club. Lastly thanks to each and every one of you lovely members – here’s to a happy and healthy 2015! X

Christmas Lunch a great success! – Wednesday 17th December
Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 17th December was a great success! We hosted over 60 members for a fantastic 3 course traditional Christmas dinner – the wine and conversation flowed and everyone had a wonderful time.

show

Leigh facilitated a festive joke game that made everyone laugh (or groan depending on the joke!) and the star turn was of course the fabulous entertainment from Mark who appeared as Donna Summer AND Barbara Streisand, along with his backing dancers/singers. Who needs cabaret when you’ve got us?!

The raffle had some great prizes, and raised £290, which we have used to stock our freezers with to make sure we keep on producing great meals for our members. Don’t forget that in line with other lunch clubs the price will be rising to £5 for one course and £6 for two courses.

A happy place to be
We had several new members and volunteers join us in 2014, which is great news. Could everyone please make a special effort to greet other members and volunteers and make sure people are not being left out? UNACC is a warm and friendly place to be, and it’s important that it always stays that way. Joining a club where you don’t know anyone is a big step for some people so we want to make sure everyone – staff, volunteers and members, knows they are valued.

December 2014

Christmas Lunch
The Christmas Lunch is at 12pm on Wednesday 17th December. Tickets for the Christmas Lunch are now sold out. If you wish to be added to the reserve list please ask the office. There will be a raffle and a few stalls, so do bring some money!

The centre will be open from 10am for teas and coffees. Leigh will also have a stall from 11am and a lady from To have to hold vintage will be playing some music to keep everyone entertained. The lunch is in the Pavilion Hall so everyone needs to be in the hall and sat down by 12pm ready for lunch to be served. The raffle will be at 2pm. There will be a surprise entertainment show before transport arrives at 3pm.

Lunches price increase
From 1st January 2015 the price of the lunches will be £6 for 2 courses and £5 for a main meal only. We have subsidised our lunches for a long time but in the light of funding cuts from the council we now need to bring our prices up in line with other lunch clubs. I know you will agree that £6 for the wonderful, freshly cooked meals that Mark serves is still brilliant value!

Christmas Day at Salvation Army

Please book with Lorraine Kinnear on 020 8771 0979 or email Lorraine.kinnear@salvationarmy.org.uk. The Salvation Army Crystal Palace is at Westow Street, Crystal Palace, SE19 3AF.
